The Power of Reciting Ayat al Karima: Unlocking Divine Blessings

Reciting specific verses from the Quran holds immense significance in Islamic tradition. Among these verses, Ayat al Karima, also known as the supplication of Sayyiduna Yunus (Prophet Jonah), occupies a special place. Its recitation is believed to invite divine blessings and acceptance of prayers. Let's delve deeper into the merits of reciting Ayat al Karima as outlined in this Hadith:

Hadith

Ibrahim bin Muhammad bin Sa`d narrated from his father, from Sa`d that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The supplication of Dhun-Nun (Prophet Yunus) when he supplicated, while in the belly of the whale was: ‘There is none worthy of worship except You, Glory to You, Indeed, I have been of the transgressors. (Lā ilāha illā anta subḥānaka innī kuntu minaẓ-ẓālimīn)’ So indeed, no Muslim man supplicates with it for anything, ever, except Allah responds to him.”

Sayyiduna Sa’ad bin Abi Waqqas narrated that Habibi Rasool'Allah (ﷺ) said:

"The Supplication of Zun-Nun {Sayyduna Yunus} when he Supplicated <to Allah Almighty>, while in the belly of the whale was:

Translation:

“There is none worthy of worship except You, Glory to You, Indeed, I have been of the transgressors..” (Surah Anbiya; 21: 87)

“So whoever Supplicates (asks ‘Dua’) with these words for Anything, Allah Almighty responds to him.” (Jami’ al Tirmizi, Kitab al Da’waat; H # 3505)

This duaa is also present in Hisn-ul-Muslim (a compilation of authentic supplications and invocations for various occasions in a Muslim's life.) Termed Duaa-Al-Karb (دعاء الكرب) i.e. for one in distress.

The recitation of Ayat al Karima, the supplication of Sayyiduna Yunus, is deeply rooted in Islamic tradition and is believed to be a powerful means of invoking divine blessings and the acceptance of prayers. Its significance is emphasized through various hadiths, encouraging Muslims to incorporate it into their supplications and collective gatherings for spiritual upliftment and guidance.
